This video illustrates some of the technology that is being explored in moving toward a complete immersion in virtual worlds by University of Milan. Academic interest in Virtual Reality tended to die out towards the end of the 90s and I believe that was mainly due to limitations on hardware. This kind of venture into what is essentially a 'holodeck' has massive implications for the advance of scientific enquiry. Within Psychology alone we are beginning to realise that this technology is opening up uncharted methodologies and raising interesting ethical questions. Thanks to David Orban for the link.
