I've been reading 'Second Life: the official guide' recently. It's a good book that gives an overview of the main aspects of SL. There is also a section on education in SL that's well worth a look if you are interested in this. I may check out the discounts on offer to educational establishments from Lindon Labs for buying an Island.

New Teaching Tools and E-Learning website
I have acqired a number of new teaching tools in-world. One in particular is of interest. I bought it for a few Lindens and it seems to provide a way of posting to blogs directly from within second life. I haven't tested this yet but it seems like a nice tool. I have also acqired a number of presentation and teaching aids from excellent the EduNation Island shop. I've yet to test these though.
See this link for an excellent site on 'Sites of interest to educators in Second Life'.
